Senior Transportation Needs Assessment Survey
Executive Summary
During May 2006, the San Antonio-Bexar County Metropolitan Planning Organization administered a survey to a random sample of adults age 60 and older who live in Bexar County . The purpose of the survey was to objectively assess the transportation needs of seniors who live in the San Antonio area. The data gathered from this survey will be used to help develop strategies to meet current and future transportation needs of seniors in the region. ETC Institute mailed a six-page survey to a random sample of 2,000 persons age 60 and older in Bexar County . Approximately seven days after the surveys were mailed, residents who received the survey were contacted by phone. Those who indicated that they had not returned the survey were given the option of completing it by phone. Of the residents who were selected to receive a survey, 408 completed the survey by phone and 594 returned it by mail for a total of 1,002 completed surveys (50% response rate). The survey was administered in both English and Spanish to ensure the results were representative of the region's large Hispanic population.
