Take the Walk&Roll Personal Challenge!

To promote a better quality of life in the San Antonio Region, the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) and San Antonio-Bexar County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) challenge area citizens to log at least 200,000 “smart miles” during the month of September for the Fourth Annual Walk & Roll Challenge.

Smart miles are efficient and healthy modes of transportation that reduce our trips to the gas pump, save us money, improve air quality, and provide health benefits. These include such options as carpooling, vanpooling, riding the bus, riding a bicycle, or walking while we commute to work or school; leave home for recreation, exercise, or entertainment; and go shopping; run errands, or conduct other business.  Miles we travel whenever we drive in vehicles as single occupants DO NOT count toward the challenge.  Miles we travel in a carpool or vanpool, in a bus, on a bike, or on our feet DO count as “smart miles,” and are applicable toward your challenge totals.

Descriptions of the four competition categories are linked below:

Participants with the best records in each of four categories will be recognized for their successes at the Live Green Fest in Olmos Basin Park on October 11, 2008, and will be awarded prizes at that time.

To accept the challenge, complete the online registration/pledge form.
