Mapping & Modeling

The GIS section supports our short and long-range transportation plans by providing innovative ways to visualize and compare several different transportation scenarios that help policymakers and the public understand transportation issues.  The San Antonio-Bexar County Metropolitan Planning Organization (SA-BC MPO) is part of a regional consortium, Strategic Geospatial Coordination Committee, that provides strategic direction in facilitating or addressing geospatial services and projects, coordinating technical standards, and administering fiscal resources.  In addition, the SA-BC MPO is part of the South Central Arc Users Group, a professional forum that shares problems and solutions about GIS software and databases. 

The Transportation Modeling Staff focuses on forecasting transportation related scenarios for the San Antonio-Bexar County Metropolitan Planning Organization (SA-BC MPO) long-range plan.  They look at how many people, households, employment, most importantly how many vehicles will be driving our roadway in the next 25 years.  Consequently, they assist transportation planners in determining the types of improvement needed to keep you moving.
